Dutch explorer Abel Tasman and English navigators Captain James Cook was discovered Fiji in 1643.
It was in the year 1970 that the people in Fiji were granted independence by the British rule, and again its Democratic rule was broken up in the year 1987 by 2 military rebellions. The two military coups, as well as the associated civil disturbances, contributed to greater Indo-Fijian emigration, and it resulted in the loss of population and gave rise to economic difficulties.

It was in the year 2009 April that the Fiji Court of Appeal declared the 2006 coup was illegal. With this began the constitutional crisis and the President abrogated the constitution and removed all the office holders including the governor and the judges. IN the year 2008 Frank Bainimarama was reappointed as the Prime Minister of Fiji.
