Nepal football history when was football started in Nepal
Football in Nepal is said to have started as early in the year 1921, during the rule of the Rana dynasty. Numerous clubs came into existence and domestic tournaments were held like the 1934 Ram Janaki Cup, 1948 Tribhuvan Challenge Shield. The ANFA was established in 1951, and along with it was formed the national football team.
It was in 1963 that they first played an international away game at the Aga Khan Gold Cup, Asian Club Championship and the Asia Champion Cup Tournament.
They played their first match at Dhaka, then East Pakistan, facing a Pakistani team ‘The Western Railway’ at the Bangabandu National Stadium, but lost the match. But the first match to win was by a single goal against Dhaka Police Club, with the lone scorer being Prakash Bikram Shah, the country’s first player to do so on foreign soil.
With Nepal becoming a FIFA member in 1970, it also joined the AFC and played their very 1st international match against People’s Republic of China on 13th October 1972 and lost. Y.B. Ghale was the first footballer to score the very first international goal for his country in the FIFA recognized tournament.

Several international coaches during the mid-1980s coached the national team and the country hosted various notable friendlies involving teams outside of the Asian Confederation like Denmark, USSR, East Germany and West Germany. They had won several minor matches since then.
But between 2000 and 2009 saw the decline of this team due to a row that arose between two factions, the FIFA backed and the government backed and faced ban, not being allowed to participate in any type of event. Their rankings slipped heavily, although the dispute was solved.

On January 2003, they celebrated their 100th international football by playing against Bangladesh at the SAFF “South Asian Football Federation” Championship.
Since 2010, they have witnessed resurgence in their game, with Graham Roberts appointment and have experienced some success. In 2015, they won the SAFF U-19 Championship, in 2016, three major tournaments, namely, the AFC Solidarity Cup, the Bangabandhu Cup and in 2016 had won a gold medal at the South Asian Games. Since 2016, they never lost a match until date!
